The Kitchen Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and assembling menu items for Port Farms and Poverty Knob. This role supports all back-of-house food operations, including grill, fryer, and prep duties, ensuring food is prepared safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. The Kitchen Cook plays a key role in maintaining kitchen flow, food consistency, and cleanliness during service.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and assemble menu items across multiple stations, including grill, fryer, and prep.
  • Perform back-of-house prep work such as chopping, slicing, portioning, marinating, and stocking.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely, including grills, flat tops, and fryers.
  • Ensure food is prepared, assembled, and presented according to Poverty Knob standards.
  • Follow recipes, portion standards, and ticket times to support efficient service.
  • Label, date, rotate, and store food items in accordance with FIFO practices.
  • Coordinate with other kitchen staff and expediters to ensure timely order completion.
  • Support daily opening and/or closing duties as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of service stations, kitchen support areas, and dining spaces.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines while handling and delivering food.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, timing, and consistency.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented.
  • Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Previous food service or kitchen experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely near hot surfaces, cooking equipment, and hot oil

Work Schedule

  • Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required.

Compensation

  • The starting rate for this position is based on experience.
  • Compensation for this position is determined based on position responsibilities, relevant previous experience, and demonstrated performance. In addition to the hourly rate, this position participates in a tip pool and is eligible to receive a share of the pooled tips.
